Courage and Leadership
September 13 - 19, 2020
What to expect in Lake Tahoe
A select group of 15 people will recharge while being offline - walking and wandering in small groups through the picturesque backdrop of Lake Tahoe. These 15 will discuss a question and then swap topics when a line of thought has run its course. The path we follow through various trails exploring the mountains, forests, and lake side trails near Lake Tahoe. The trails themselves will guide interactions: the path will narrow to restrict a discussion to a single pair of walkers who can fit together on the trail. And later, as larger spaces open up, the path will allow for us to regroup, slow down, and take stock of our surroundings.
Ideas tend to flow more freely in a Walkshop than they would around a conference table. People are more inclined to ‘think outside the box’, and come up with fresh and radical insights and innovations when they go off the grid for a few days. And by the second day of the hike - the normal inhibitions and pretense all melt away while you focus on the trail, your destination, your companions, and yourself.
We hope you can attend in Fall 2020 to gain new insights and build new connections.

First Day on the Trail - 7.6 Miles
Monday Sept 14: Mountain Top Hike
To get oriented on our first day, we will explore the mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Mountain Loop is a moderate 7.6 mile hike with breathtaking views of the mountains and lake.
Second Day on the Trail - 7 Miles
Tuesday Sept 15: Wandering Creek Hike
Follow along the winding curvy stream as you hike along the 7 mile High Meadows to Cold Creek Trailf - stopping to notice the many wildflowers that grow near the waters edge.
Third Day:
Dare to Lead Workshop
On Wednesday Sept 16, take a break from the trail and stay on your toes (even when not on your feet) with a series of workshops on from Dare to Lead.
Dare to Lead was named one of the best books of the year by Bloomberg.
“Leadership is not about titles, status, and wielding power. A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for recognizing the potential in people and ideas and has the courage to develop that potential.
When we dare to lead, we don't pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don't see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it with others. We don't avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into vulnerability when it's necessary to do good work.”
How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?
Fourth Day on the Trail - 7.3 Miles
Thursday, Sept 17: Waters Edge
For our last hike together, enjoy the view from the water’s edge as we walk the 7.3 mile loop trail along Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay. Take your time today, where you can savor the sites and nurture sore muscles. A meal from our private chef will be waiting.

Typically in September, Lake Tahoe has highs in the 70s (F) and lows in the 50s (F)
How should I train / prepare for the hike?
The hike in Lake Tahoe is easy to moderate - but still a good distance each day. Everyone should start a stretching routine before going on the trip and start increasing the amount of physical activity they experience in a typical day in anticipation for the trip. To help build an endurance, consider switching to a standing desk, purposefully start walking more on the weekends, or take your next 1:1 on foot and walk around the block as you talk with your peers!
